SilentEye is a free program that uses the Steganography technique to hide messages or files into regular images or audio media files.
You can adjust different parameters for the container files: for images you can adjust the luminance, and image quality; for audio files you can adjust the sound quality, number of channels, header position, and more. You can also enable encryption and data compression. One thing to bring the attention to is that the container file must have enough space to encode your message or file. In other words, the bigger the container file, the more space available for the text message or file you want to hide.
Recovering a hidden text message or file involves a similar procedure; you need to drag and drop the media file to decode, and use the "Decode" option. Additionally, when installing the program you can associate both image and audio files to be automatically opened with SilentEye.
Pros
- You can hide text messages or any kind of files into the container media files
Cons
- WAV is the only format supported for container audio files
- It is better to drag and drop files into the program instead of browsing a file, as this may not work
- The container file must have enough space to encode your message or file
McAfee popped up is totally unwarranted. :( You could tell McAfee to go and take a hike, because the site is linked to OPEN SOURCED freeware and not malware, nor viruses that McAfee installs in their so-called anti-virus products. Anyone with an IQ above their shoe size knows McAfee makes most of their money by placing back doors and garbage into THEIR products so they can charge much money through THEIR pretend-a-support to remove said garbage.
